GHK-Cu Explained: Copper Peptides, Skin, Collagen and Hair

GHK-Cu is a copper peptide: a short chain of three amino acids that binds to copper. Researchers study it in connection with collagen, skin repair and hair. Here is what those topics mean, and what the studies actually measured.

What is a copper peptide?

GHK stands for glycine, histidine and lysine. These are the three amino acids in the peptide. Add bound copper and the name becomes GHK-Cu. GHK and GHK-Cu are related, but they are not interchangeable names for the same material.

GHK has been isolated from human plasma. That natural origin does not establish how a supplier’s laboratory material was made, its purity or its suitability for a particular experiment.

Collagen: why researchers are interested

Collagen helps give connective tissue its structure. In a 1988 study, Maquart and colleagues found that GHK-Cu stimulated collagen synthesis in cultured fibroblasts, cells involved in producing connective tissue. This is a laboratory finding, rather than proof of visible skin improvements in people. Read the study.

Skin repair: what is being investigated?

Researchers investigate how GHK-Cu affects cells and processes involved in tissue repair. Pollard and colleagues studied responses in fibroblasts in 2005. These experiments help explain the research interest, but they do not establish results from using an ADINA laboratory product. Read the fibroblast study.

Hair: a small eyebrow-serum study

A 2026 study followed 18 adults for 12 weeks. It compared a topical 2% GHK-Cu eyebrow serum with a vehicle serum on the opposite eyebrow. The authors reported improvements in eyebrow hair count and diameter on the GHK-Cu-treated side. Read the study and its reported findings.

This is an early finding about a particular eyebrow formulation. It does not establish scalp hair regrowth, changes in hair colour or results from ADINA’s laboratory material. This guide covers selected studies, not a systematic review.

Keep the research and the product separate

A study on GHK-Cu does not verify a supplier’s batch. For laboratory purchasing, check the exact material, specification and batch-linked analytical documents. The GHK-Cu product page now links to its current batch report; check the report’s batch identifier, stated methods and results against the material being reviewed.

Quick questions

Is GHK-Cu the same as GHK?

GHK is the three-amino-acid peptide. GHK-Cu is its copper complex.

Has GHK-Cu been studied for hair?

Yes. The eyebrow-serum study above reported encouraging findings, but its small size and specific formulation limit what can be concluded about other uses.

Does naturally occurring mean suitable for personal use?

No. Natural occurrence does not establish the safety, composition or intended use of a supplied material.

ADINA products are for laboratory research only. Not for human or veterinary use.
